Our Story

We're Chris & Kirsty, and we love running the Plough Inn. Still pretty new to the place, we took over the reigns in the summer 2000 after falling in love with it and the beautiful Vale of Belvoir.

The Plough Inn is a dream come true for us. At it's heart it is a proper pub serving real ales, craft beers, traditional pub food and welcoming everyone through our doors. Our drinks selection consists of a mix of national brewers and small independents never cutting corners with quality and offering something for all tastes. When you dine with us you can expect to find nostalgia, comfort and home cooked quality in every dish. We are passionate about creating warming dishes loved by all and take pride in ensuring your food is satisfying, nutritious and always locally sourced.

Whether you're a familiar face or just passing through, we offer you a warm welcome and hope you'll feel the sense of community you would expect from your traditional village local.

We look forward to seeing you very soon.
About The Plough

A traditional 18th Century pub nestled in the Vale of the Belvoir, The Plough Inn is the last of 4 surviving pubs in the pretty Nottinghamshire village of Hickling. Originally built as a stop off for boats transporting goods up and down the Grantham Canal, it is situated right opposite the canal wharf and almost in the middle of the Cross Britton Way route, making it a popular visit for walkers and cyclists alike.

Recently renovated, the Plough has a cosy feel throughout with a modern twist on a traditional pub. The different rooms that have been added over the years make for tonnes of character within. Rooms include a cosy snug with an open fire - a perfect spot to warm up after a brisk Winter walk or ride - 2 bar areas and a bright lounge with a pool table at one end. Outside, a lovely sunny courtyard is a favourite with cyclists and a bright sun terrace enhanced with beautiful palms is just the place for a long, relaxed lunch.

Our family area is dotted with picnic benches and a fenced off children's play area, a climbing frame and ample parking for those on their travels.
